Advent Taize Service

December 3rd 6pm St Nicholas Church West Looe: Advent Taize Service by candlelight. Always an inspiring occasion.

The Lord is Risen!

On Easter Day, we celebrate Jesus’ triumph over death in the glorious resurrection: love overcomes hate, good conquers evil, eternal life in God is available to all. The story is told in all four Gospels in the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This year in our churches the readings are taken from John, chapter 20 and Matthew 28.

Alleluia! He is risen indeed!

Good Friday

On Good Friday, 14th April, Churches Together holds an ecumenical service at 10am at St Nicholas’ Church in West Looe, before going to Riverside United Church, 100 yards away towards the bridge, for Hot Cross Buns and tea or coffee. At 12 noon we assemble outside the Cornerstone Churches Together shop nearby for the Walk of Witness through the town. We carry a large wooden cross to symbolise the walk that Jesus too to Calvary to be crucified. At several stations along the way, across the bridge and out to the sea front, we hear a short reading ad sing a hymn. As we walk, we give out information to passers by, so that they know why we are walking. Do come and join us: it’s a great opportunity to witness quietly but effectively to our faith.

Commemorating the Lord’s Supper

At Riverside United Church in West Looe, on Maundy Thursday 13th April there will be a service of Holy Communion followed by Tenebrae, the Service of Shadows. We read the passion story by candlelight, then leave the church in darkness and silence to symbolise the desertion of Jesus by the disciples.
